in march 2007, with the approval of the national science and technology award office, china steel construction society (cscs) established the science and technology award of , which is reviewed once a year. the award was set up by the cscs to encourage enterprises, scientific research institutes and universities in the structural steel industry and all sectors of society to invest in science and technology in the field of steel construction, enhance the overall scientific and technological level of the steel structure industry, and recognize organizations and individuals that have made outstanding contributions to the scientific and technological progress in the field of steel structure in china.

since 2007, cscs has been evaluating the science and technology award of china steel construction society every year. as an extension of the award, in october 2009, after deliberation and approval of the third meeting of the fifth council of cscs, the selection of the structural steel outstanding talent award has been carried out since 2010. structural steel masters of china steel construction society was set up in 2016 after approval at the 7th member congress of cscs.

the award-winning projects of science and technology award of china steel construction society that meet the requirements of national science and technology award shall be nominated and recommended to apply for national science and technology award. since 2014, cscs has nominated the award-winning projects of science and technology award of china steel construction society for many times to apply for the national science and technology progress award. at present, 6 projects have won awards in four years, including 2 first prizes and 4 second prizes of the national science and technology progress award.

since the establishment of these awards, cscs adheres to the public welfare and no fees are declared to be charged by any enterprises and all the costs are borne by the cscs.
